The current members form the majority of the original group of artists who were selected in 2018 by Jeremy Knight, then curator of Horsham Museum and Art Gallery. HSBA staged a successful inaugural exhibition at the Museum to celebrate the Horsham Year of Culture in 2019, and to help establish their presence in the local community.
HSBA seek to bring to the public’s attention the richness and diversity of botanical art and illustration in the Horsham District through local events, projects, and exhibitions as well as help and support each other with individual botanical art projects.
· Raise awareness of the importance of botanical art and illustration and its history at a local level.
· Stage events and exhibitions to promote botanical art and illustration within the Horsham District.
· Collaborate on projects where botanical art and illustration can help to record plant collections and rare and endangered species which may serve as a legacy for future generations (e.g. The Leonardslee Florilegium).
· Encourage the promotion of botanical art and illustration as a traditional skill through teaching and demonstration.
· Work together to support each other’s individual projects by offering encouragement, help and advice.
